    A cautionary tale

    Went to view van after previously agreement on the price travelled 2hr round trip , to be fair it looked immaculate (body work interior etc ) took for a short test drive within 50 meters of joining the main road a very loud noticeable noice coming from the gear box . The seller said this fault must have developed while stood idle for a number of weeks and was baffled by it !!!!! . He took it to his mechanic who confirmed it was a gear box issue and couldn’t be fixed with oil change and a service as the seller recommended !!, . We left on the agreement that if the fault was fixed I would still go ahead with the sale …. Then later on in the day the seller tells me he wants an extra £500 to go ahead which effectively means I’m paying for the repair …. My point being is this van had such a fault on it that the seller must have noticed it when he drove it previously and was not a fault that would have arisen due to being static , as he claims to be an experienced retailer but chose for whatever reason to not disclose this in the hope I wouldn’t pick up on it ….
